Hi my name is Therese and I am a Nutritional Therapist specialising in cardiovascular disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or other related conditions, including pre diabetes or weight issues. I also work with people experiencing digestive issues including reflux, IBS and the many associated symptoms they bring. My role involves supporting both men and women in both the NHS and private sector through diet and lifestyle changes.

Therese's story and why she became a Nutritional Therapist

Therese never questioned her own health until she developed hypertension during pregnancy. The shock to discover she wasn’t as healthy as she always believed set off an emotional cascade of worry and uncertainly.

It was only when her midwife advised immediate readmission to hospital during a routine visit that made her realise she was dealing with a health condition she knew little about, and it was this lack of control that was contributing to her vunerability and worry.

Soon after, Therese finally decided to take control of her health by researching the power of food to support blood pressure and other cardiovascular conditions. And it was this new passion that encouraged Therese to study at the College of Naturopathic Medicine, passing with distinction.

Now Therese helps other people with high blood pressure and other related conditions such as high cholesterol, pre diabetes and weight issue to take ownership of their longterm health, stop the worry or uncertainty they may be feeling and instead start enjoying life to the full.

Therese is registered with CNHC and BANT. CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council) a government body accredited register of practitioners who meet UK standards and BANT (British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy) a professional body for nutritionists qualified in both the science of nutrition along with clinical practice.

She also completed the Nutrigenomics Practitioner Programme for Lifecode GX enabling her to offer personalised genetic tests to support client with different conditions especially those related to cardio metabolic issues.

In 2021 she successfully completed the Low Fodmap Diet for Irritable Bowel Syndrome practitioner course at Monash University. This enables her to support her clients many of which who suffer with IBS. Therese also works in a one to one setting, with NHS patients through a unique NHS referral programme.

“It was in August 2020 that I first made contact with Therese, after having some blood test which showed that I had high cholesterol, was pre-diabetic. I was overweight, and was taking blood pressure tablets, as well as proton pump inhibitors for a stomach problem I had. Covid rates showed that being overweight and having some of the potential problems I was showing meant I was more likely to die from Covid. This was enough for me to talk with Therese and change what I eat and lose weight. Therese was brilliant and understanding, my main focus was losing weight and just not eating, whilst Therese counselled me on what best to eat and when you add certain things into my diet as the weight came off, to address the underlaying cardiovascular issues. After about 4 months I had lost over 2 stone, but more importantly due to the nutrition and food that Therese has encouraged me to take as well as changing my habits, reducing alcohol, I had my bloods retested. The change had been dramatic, my blood sugar levels were back to the perfect normal range, so was my cholesterol! We tested my liver and other things, and added some supplements and tweaked the plan again. I had managed to stop taking the proton pump inhibitors, and have now reduced my blood pressure tablets after my blood pressure started to reduce and the need for then was less needed. “I came to Therese for assistance with long term issues with IBS and weight gain which were seriously affecting my daily life and for which I had not been able to get help via my Doctor. Sessions offered through the NHS were not tailored to me specific needs and were therefore just confusing and unhelpful. I opted for 2 sessions with Therese which were conducted by zoom, plus a bespoke meal planner. I cannot praise Therese enough for her professionalism and for her warm and supportive manner. I hugely appreciated the holistic approach to my health, looking at all aspects of my life and the relationship between this and my diet.
